It would be awesome if companies could sponsor the leaderboard. They get brand exposure and the top cyclists on the leaderboard win gear from the sponsor.

Why is it useful, who would benefit from it, how should it work?

Simple

Cyclists who reach the top of the leaderboard deserve something to showcase the achievement. A badge on their profile would be awesome!
